Championship Off Road Rounds 1 & 2 Dirt City Motor Complex Lena, WI
After some good testing of the new pro sxs on Wednesday team Thyes Motorsports were ready for the first two rounds of Championship Off Road at the Dirt City Motor Complex in Lena WI. Friday began with a great practice session then returned to the pits and looked everything over for the qualifying laps for Saturdays race. They took the green flag in qualifying and then coming around for the first lap the front differential decided to give up and they split the case open so that put them starting 17th on Saturday with a stacked field of the best drivers in the country.
Saturday Round 1 they took the green flag from the back of the field and quickly passed 3 cars in the first lap. Leland started to settle in and get in the race grove picking his lanes and setting up other drivers to pass by the half way mandatory caution Leland was in 10 spot passing 6 other drivers in the first half now he had his work cut out for him for the next half of the race. They took the green flag on the re-start and never looked back and continued to pass other drivers after some hard fought battles back and forth Leland came across to the checkered flag in P7 so it was a great showing passing 10 drivers they felt really great about the set up for Sundays race.
Sunday Round 2 Going off of lap times from Saturday they started in P10 so with a wet and muddy track we took the green flag and with everyone sliding around they got shuffled back in the field but Leland again settled back in and started to pass other SXS and put himself back in mid pack at the half way mark. On the restart he got a great jump and was moving forward when another driver spun out right infront of them blocking the track they had to back up and go around and when it sorted out put them back in 14th but with 4 laps to go leland made his way back and at the checkered flag in P9 in the second round. Over all they will take two top ten finishes and that puts them in 9th in the Championship point standings going into rounds 3 & 4 in Antigo, WI June 8-9. They will get this Pro SXS all tore down and start the race prep and come out swinging for the Championship Off Road series in rounds 2-3.
